The Yorkshire Terrier is one of the most popular breeds in America.
If you are choosing to make a Yorkie a part of your family, there are some things you should know.
The Yorkie is a very independent dog. They have their own ideas and opinions and are very intelligent.
That is not to say that they are easily trained.
Because of this independent nature they tend to take a little longer to be house broken.
Because they are very smart, they do well with many activities such as agility,
obedience, rally, therapy, conformation and many more.

The Yorkie is a very well rounded dog.
They have even temperaments and are generally very friendly.
How a Yorkie reacts to strangers is largely dependent on how they are raised.
They love to be around people, but are not generally underfoot.
Yorkies are very curious about everything.
They are also quite courageous.
This can get them into trouble, since they think nothing of challenging a much larger dog.
Yorkies are good with kids, but are a better fit for families with children over 5 since they are so small.
This is a great family dog.
There are some health problems that are common to Yorkies.
One common issue is hypoglycemia.
This is where the dog's blood sugar level drops dramatically.
This is more common in the very small and young Yorkies
because they do not have the muscle mass necessary to store and regulate sugar in the body.
Some Yorkies develop very sensitive skin. They can also be plagued with allergies.
Other common problems include bronchitis, cataracts, kerratits sicca, lymphangiectasia, and others.
The average life span of a Yorkie is between ten and fifteen years.

Yorkies are tiny little dogs, and the cold weather can affect them more than larger breeds.
It it wise to get some clothes to keep them warm and safe during the winter.
There are countless types of Yorkie clothes you can get.
such as shirts, sweaters, t-shirts,
and much more,
just click on the crafts tab on the home page for some of my own creations.

Yorkies are great little dogs.
They are smart and versatile.
They have a pleasant disposition and can fit themselves well into almost any family.
The reason for the Yorkie's widespread popularity is clear,
they are wonderful family pets!
